Scarcity, it seems, has a lot to do with value… So what’s scarce now? Respect. Honesty. Good judgment. Long-term relationships that lead to trust.

An excellent read by Seth Godin from his blog.

Liveability

From the Economist: “With low crime… and a highly developed transport and communications infrastructure, Canada and Australia are home to the most liveable destinations in the world.”

Whoever is under the delusion that Vancouver (rated as the most liveable city) has a “highly developed transport and communications infrastructure” is either delusional, or has actually never been here. Or maybe they just haven’t had the pleasure of being places that actually do have a highly developed transport and communications infrastructure - say for instance Japan, Germany or Singapore.

Maybe they’ve never actually ridden the SkyTrain, or been stuck on the East side of the Port Mann Bridge trying to actually get into the city. And don’t even get me started on “communications infrastructure”.

Not to say that the Lower Mainland isn’t a gorgeous place to  live - it is.

Apparently they couldn’t find a four-character symbol that stood for “shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic”. (SDCT?)

John Gruber (from here) on Sun Microsystems changing their ticker symbol from SUNW to JAVA. (thanks, Nick)
